Service to Others
If we are going to analyze the overall theme of Jesus' life, service to others would be at the top of the list. The Bible says if we want to be first in God's kingdom, we must learn to be a servant to all (Mark 9:35). Jesus says that whatever we have done to the least of these, we've done to Him (Matthew 25:40). He demonstrates time and again how to serve even the most dejected of creatures. He says we are to take His yoke upon us, for He is meek and lowly in heart, and we will find rest for our souls (Matthew 11:29). He who humbles Himself will be exalted (Matthew 23:12). Truly we are called not to be served (Matthew 20:28), but to serve for true rest and happiness...and that service should not be merely and outward expression to please men, but of sincerity of heart as if doing it unto the Lord (Ephesians 6:6-8).
